we released our last issue in quarantine summer, a time when we were at least able to be apart together—in the open air, beleaguered but sharing in our sorrow. this volume finds us at the brink of winter, yearning to be in the company of others—in gyms, on dancefloors, in protest. these essays turn listening into a collective act, and help us remember in music impossible longing, self-shattering grace, queer kinship and political love.
